What exactly is document word format?
I have been applying for jobs by sending my resume and a lot of employers ask me to send my resume in "word document format" or ".DOC" what exactly is that? I typed up my resume through WordPad on my computer and what i usually do is just copy it from WordPad, log into my email, compose new mail, paste and send. Am i doing it wrong?
You can go to OpenOffice.org and download their MS Word alternative program. Then after doing your resume, do file / save as and then click the drop down and hit .DOC or Word Document Format in the box and save it. This will change it to MS Word.

What they are asking for is a Microsoft Office Word document (.doc file).
WordPad saves to a rich text format (.rtf)
If you have MS Word, use that and send it as an attachment. If not, they would probably be able to open a .rtf file anyway. It’s always easier for them to read it as an attachment file rather than an email.

You have a couple of choices:
Download and install Open Office from http://www.openoffice.org
This is a free Office suite and can save docs in Word format (.doc)
You could buy Microsoft Office/Word of course
You could send the docs in pdf format instead – that is fairly universal – download and install DOpdf from http://dopdf.com
You could save as a rtf file in WordPad. Although this is not .doc – it is fully compatible with Word.
