help with job portfolio and resume?
i am graduating this march (architecture) and will soon be looking for a job
1. i know sites that has a list of job opportunities and i am thinking of sending them my resume through email only (PDF format attachment) is it OK if I just send it through mail instead of going to their offices one by one to submit it personally?
2. I am also thinking of creating an animated/slideshow type of work samples/portfolio to be put in a CD together with my resume(printed) and also to be compressed in ZIP file and attached to emailed resumes:
-is this a good idea?
-what program should i use? windows movie maker? GIF animator?
-in what format should i save it
3. or should i create a "website or blog or whatever" to post my works online and then place the link in my emailed and printed out resumes so the employers won’t be able have a copy of my work (securing it) and also make it easier for them to view (no emailed attachments download or opening of CD)
Having just gone through this about a year and a half ago, I found that it is best to create PDF format of your portfolio to send to each firm along with a cover letter and resume. You want to make sure it is a reasonable size – they’ll get annoyed if its too big and clogs up their email. Then create a few hard copies of your portfolio to bring with you to interviews and leave with the interviewer(s). Also, unless your told otherwise, always follow up with a phone call to make sure they have received your materials. Though a CD with a slideshow or a website would show hard work and all that, many firms don’t give a crap about it and just want a quick, easy, concise way to view your work. Though the presentation needs to be good, its more about the actual work than some fancy website or blog. Also, know that the architecture market is saturated with entry level talent right now and many firms are still struggling in the crappy economy. Sending resume to firms and responding to ads is good, but really, the best way to get a job is going to be through someone you know in the field, so network like crazy.

It’s important to have a great resume, it is worth taking the time to write something that looks fantastic and does the job well. The site in the box below has lots of information on resumes and help with alternative professions.
