Resume Writing Advice

I am applying for several magazine internships this summer, and I really want one. I am only a freshman in college, so I know my chances are slim, but I am trying anyway. I have to send in a resume and cover letter to each magazine and that’s it. I have never written a cover letter before and there are so many websites about it that it is overwhelming. What do I need to put in my cover letter to stand out, and how do I format the addresses? Thanks so much.
