how to get on oil rig offshore as a roustabout, steward, etc?
hi guys and girls
I am currently working in a freezer in -20 which is a ok job but would like a job with more opportunities, so because am after a job with a more career development i thought i would look into the oil and gas industry, with the research i have done so far and the videos i have watched i believe that it the right career for me to work offshore ![]()
at the 30th of march 2009 i have my BOSIET to take which i am looking forward too, but also believe you need this to be able to get offshore. Then after that i am am driving to aberdeen to try and find some agencies to connect with, but also taking into account aberdeen is quite far distance from liverpool but hopefully it will be a good idea to do so.
All i want to ask is there any one that knows a easy way of getting offshore or any tips. I’d be even more great full if there is any contacts you may want to pass on
be glad and well appreciated to hear of any1 who think they might be helpful
thanks alot

Hi chris…I work at B11, an offshore platform belong to Shell..but I am subcont to Petronas as an Instrumentation engineer…
Involved in a rejuvenation project indirectly to MCOT, Miri Crude Oil Terminal…
about the BOSIET, commonly you need to have a survival course and in that course they will teach you HUET..the important thing to understand..
HUET stands for Helicopter Underwater Escape Training "if im not mistaken"…
If your looking for a career development at offshore..i suggest you to take ROV course or get a welder training..ROV, remote operated vehicle…
to be honest ROV operator and deepsea welder pays a lot more than me as an engineer…
thats all i can say for now…

Not easy to get into at the moment. oil price dropping and drilling rigs stopping drilling for new oil. Don,t worry if you don,t get a job quickly. Keep at it.
