How do I get an Oil Job? (rig offshore ect)?

Hi, does anyone know how I should go about getting a job in the oil industry – on a rig – and what I should expect from it?
I work in marketing, and have some painting / decorating background, so probably unqualified, but that’s ok, I would be happy with more roustabout work if the pay is as good as they say.
Thanks!

Contact companies operating in the North Sea (and the ‘service’ companies who supply the rigs)

At the very least you will need you offshore ‘safety’ certificate =

There are many organizations that will be only to happy to charge you an arm & a leg for this (link), however I would suggest it’s not worth paying for this yourself unless you are confident of a job afterward (almost ALL companies look for EXPERIENCE .. so whilst a Cert. may get you past the first ‘weeding out’ lack of experience will mean you are cut at the second step)

It’s best to find a company that will hire you as a ‘trainee’ & they pay for the exams etc.
