Can anyone give me tips on job-hunting and interviews?
I live in southern California(reeeaally hard to find work here) and I plan on going Job Hunting soon, and I’m just wondering the best ways to do it and things to say(should I wear nice clothes for places like fast food and retail?). And when I call what exactly should I say, who should I call, and when should I call back?
Any tips for interviewing would be highly appreciated(I get so nervous I stutter and say stupid things haha).
Thanks for any help and please don’t be rude. ![]()
ok so a few pointers….apply EVERYWHERE whether you like the place or not..its still money in your pocket.
dress to what you think should be worn…like if you apply at mcdonalds dont wear a suit and tie..that would fit maybe a big financial place.
be polite and shake hands with anyone who meets you..manager employees anyone. ya never know they could be like wow hes polite so give him a chance
ask for an app and even if there not hiring what if someone quits and your next in line.
NEVER put anything that would bring you down on an app..if its an old job that fired you say there closed or it was a seasonal job.
after putting the app in there hands give it 2 or 3 days and even if they say they will call…they rarely ever do..so call back and say hey im——i just wanted to check on my application.
show them you want and need a job.
during an interview keep cool dont word things that you know you might mess up…and simply tell the person interviewing that you get a little nervous they should be 100% ok with it.
GOOD LUCK!!!

I’m in the same predicament! I need to look for a job soon haha.
when being asked a question, stay calm. Employers can tell when your nervous; not necessarily a bad thing. Just answer it as if it were your best friend asking you. It isn’t that difficult…just try to stay away from those annoying prepared ones: "What’s your weakness?" "I’m a perfectionist." NO!
Try going to job fairs, do they have those in Cali? Lots of companies (a.k.a future employers) would be there and it would give you a heads-up on what to expect for the interview. They may even interview you on the spot! I’m going to one on Wednesday
Always wear nice clothes to an interview! Even if its at a fast food place! It doesn’t have to be a suit and tie, just something clean-looking (for lack of a better word). The interview is the first impression. Work on your handshake too, it has to be firm (weird, I know).
Here’s a site that may help: http://www.adecco.ca/viewpage.aspx?lang=en&text_pages_id=72
Btw, EVERYONE always asks the question "Tell us about yourself." Prepare your answer beforehand.
Lastly, there isn’t much of a reason to get really nervous over it. Sometimes I find that interviews are a tad bit overrated and exaggerated — not a big deal, really, anyone can answer questions. So you’ll be fine
