What is a PhD and can I obtain it to become an English Teacher (high school)?
Although it may not be necessary, I want to receive a PhD. in Education. How long will this take? Also, some tips on how to become a HIgh School English teacher. I am about to go into my freshman year of high school so any tips on that will be greatly appreciated!

You should only get a PhD if your main interest is to do research/teach university. If you want to be a high school English teacher you’ll only need to go as high as getting your Master’s in education… a PhD really isn’t necessary or worth your time and money.

To be a high school teacher, you only need a bachelor’s degree in English and a teaching creditial (graduate teaching credential).
A PhD, or Doctor of Philosophy, is a terminal degree (highest possible degree) in a field. To earn a PhD, you conduct original research of publishable quality in your selected field of study. In particular, when you start your PhD program, you will have to choose a specialty area (for example, English Education) and take coursework and conduct research in this area. To earn a PhD in Education, you will have to publish an original research body of work, called a dissertation, in your specialty area.
The process for a PhD will take at least 6 years since you have to get a Master’s first. Education is one of the few fields where most programs require applicants to hold Master’s degrees first. So you’re looking at 2 years for the masters and at least 4 years for the PhD (your research may take longer than the estimated time to complete).
