How to become an English Professor?
I will be attending Winona State University next year. I really like English and I have been told I would be a good teacher. So, how do prestigious English professors become teachers?
First you are a teacher, then as you increase your education and earn higher degrees, you may qualify for the title of professor. In order to become a teacher, one needs at minimum a bachelors degree and would need to work toward at least 1 masters. Professors have the bachelors, masters and a doctorate.
To attain a Professorship, you must work for, and achieve a Ph.D or Ed.D. (doctor of education). Then work in your field. You will have to prove yourself to obtain the Professorship.

If you want to teach high school, you’ll need at least a bachelors degree (and a masters in some states) with teaching certification (for public schools – private schools usually don’t require certification). To teach at the 2-year college level, you need at least a masters in English, and to teach at the 4-year college or university level, you need a PhD in English. At the moment, there are far more people who want to be English professors as there are jobs available – most job postings get hundreds of applications.
