How can I become a teachers assistant? I’m finding it real hard to get work experience!!?
Hey- I have tried to get work experience with primary schools so I can become a teachers assistant but i’m running into walls- as they have deals with unis or need a CRB check- but I only can get one once I’m a part of an organisation- is there any other way I get become a teachers assistant? It’s real frustrating -also how easy is it to find work as a TA?
Your position really depends upon the school’s district. With the recent cutbacks in so many school systems, it’s very hard to ask for Assistants in a classroom.
Let me suggest this for you – since you have so much of a desire to ‘assist’, please, take it to the next level. Don’t stop at being someone’s assistant. You seem passionate about your desire and if you feel that strongly, you should probably contact your local colleges and get help to jump into the education program. It’s not as difficult as you might think. Sure, you have to study and you might have to juggle work and school, but there is nothing that you can’t do!
Please go for it! You’ll have more income and security, your own place in the world, a testimony to give and children who will love you immensley!

CRB are easily done. The school would sort the CRB check for you once you are offered the post.
I would get a list of every local school in your area, find out the name of the headmaster and write a personal letter expressing your desire to become a TA and that you would like to get some work experience. Saying you will be a free volunteer usually gets you in there!!!

I started on my way by volunteering at a local school as I attended community college working on my AA-EE. The transition from volunteer to employee was fairly easy for me, I talked to the principal and once she made sure she had the budget for it, she hired me as an instructional assistant. However, like an above poster said, the current ecomonioc situation may preclude Assistants in classrooms. I was able to continue working as an IA all the way through this current semester and only then had to quit in preparation to Student Teach in the fall as I finish up my BA-EE.
