Can a math teacher become a college professor?

I’m going to become a math teacher because I really like helping people out and I’m good at math. After I got my math degree and teaching cert. How could I become a college professor later on if I chose to?

To become a college professor, you would need to obtain a PhD in Mathematics. This would mean going back to school for 3-7 more years depending on the program. Professors are required to do lots of research and publish articles and things, so before you decide to change to the college level, make sure you enjoy theoretical math and the academic side of things as well as you enjoy teaching it.

you have to keep going to school yourself and work on your master’s and probably doctorate. teach at a college, preferably the one you are taking classes at.

In my school, most of the teachers have a Bachelor’s and Master’s… including the Math teacher. They would be able to teach at a Community College, or take a short-term position as a lecturer at a University. If they then studied for their Ph.D in Mathematics, or Education they could teach and get tenure at a University.
