How do you choose a career when you want to do everything?
I was going to be an Egyptologist, then a vet, then a cop, then a beach bar owner, then a chef, then a sailor among many other things. I’m 25 and getting nowhere. So, how do you pick a profession when you want to do a little bit of everything or just lose interest?
How the hell is working in a museum, mending a sick dog or cat, writing up speeding tickets, owning a bar, cooking a meal or piloting a fishing boat considered an adventure?
I seethe when I hear or read people tell others to
grow up, and get serious.
If it were so great, why aren’t they out doing serious
things?
Anyway, on to what matters.
Look at names like Ted Turner and Richard Bronson.
They’re extreme, but fine examples of the payoff of
"going for it".
They live. They sail the seas, fly the skies, own
record companies and sports teams and cable
networks, it just goes on.
Do What You Want with your life!
Look at it this way: If you go out and conquer and
have a great time, not only are you fulfilling for
yourself, but you’re an inspiration to anyone
with half a pulse who’s also paying attention.
If you put your head down and do what some
closed-minded drone suggests, not only are
you miserable, but they either don’t have the
brains to notice, or they’re secretly getting
something out of it.
And is that the kind of person you want to please?

The professions you mentioned are not professions they are adventures. Your mind tells you that you watn something exciting, so thus you think you will follow a dream. Its time to step into your big girl panties and put on your adult life and move into a more serious mode. Not everyone can wonder the world, take advantage of your youth and find a company that offers travel or mobility, you will not last ina position to long as you et bored. So good luck!

How about checking into a university intern-type program or even joining up with a volunteer group such as AmeriCorps, Habitat for Humanity, etc

Get an MBA. Even it doesn’t seem relevant to what you finally settle down with, it impresses the hell out of people and, heck, you might even use it some day.
By the way, I didn’t figure out what I wanted to do when I grew up until I was in my late 30s. And I’m still not entirely sure.

Hi! Your enthusing is great however: 25 yrs will be gone and, you will be facing 30!. Time does fly and, the only advice I can give you is check out these web-sites to see if there is anything that may interest you and, try that field out. Remember to work at what you enjoy most to see if that is where you would you to start paving your way into the future.
