Don’t put down responsibilities, put down what you achieved. So you might have wanted to say
- Responsible for taking customer orders
instead say more like
- Served restaurant patrons with accuracy and speed
The trick is in the verb used. Make it strong and show the benefits.

On the subject of using the same words in two places I would say no. You only have limited space so give a little variety.

Well, from an experienced job hopper, here’s my advice.

Embellish, embellish, embellish. Find ways to make what you have done seem like it was bigger than it was. A friend of mine once gave a lengthy description about how it stored legal documents in catalogs for court cases. It was just filing for goodness sakes, but you can phrase things however you like.

next thought, create an online portfolio. Start a blog. Something like that, that they can click on and see who you are and what you can create. It helps distinguish you.

I hang out with friends, watch movies and I’m great with any video games, that’s about it.

You can’t and you don’t need to bother with a resume. Entry level positions, like fast food or retail, usually have an application that you fill out and hand in. Since they are ‘entry-level’ they don’t expect applicants to have much in the way of experience. But if you want to increase your chances, you should spend some time volunteering at a local charity so that you will be working towards gaining work experience for a resume and professional references.

Hello Freya,

Here some tips that may be helpful for you to start writing your resume:

1. OBJECTIVE: You need to start with a good objective. Try to write an objective that is not open ended and tells clearly about what you are looking for? Like Part time or Full time? Also, mention the position you are looking for and in which field?
2. EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Mention your educational background chronologically with the most recent one first. Here you can mention the name of the school you attended, degree, year of completion and your CGPA.
3. EMPLOYMENT HISTORY: Mention your work experience in a chronological order with the most recent one first. Mention all your past experiences including any volunteering job you have done in the past.
4. SKILL SET: You need to mention your skill set for the job profile you are applying for. For sales assistant job, you need to have good people skills and sales skills.
5. EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: You also need to mention your hobbies and achievements.
6. REFERENCES: In the end, you can mention the contact information of your references.

Make a good impression with your resume. Good luck for your interview.

Hope this helps!

Honesty is going to be your best policy. Explain that you just completed the course and list your previous work. There is nothing to be ashamed of. List the course you took to be accredited for the CNA license.

You don’t have to write those things, what matter is you stick with relevant specification that your employer is looking for. You have to keep your resume relevant. If you don’t have experience, state something about your skills that reflect your employer’s qualification. Say something about your personality that could help your employer too. Stay away from I and me pronoun and use action words once.

Hey Yahoo! Answers Community,

Just wondering how to write up a resume for my first job?

I’m only 15 so nothing to fancy just the main things I would need to get a job. All the advice would help and also how many pages is the usual resume?

Thanks in advance!

Your resume will be one page, because you have no formal experience. You can use this format:

http://jobsearch.about.com/library/samples/blhsresume.htm

Under experience, put bullets stating what you do or have done in the way of work while helping your family or friends. "Serve as IT specialist for mother, two aunts, and sister." "Responsible for taking out the trash, mowing the lawn, and weed-whacking every week" "Provided child-care for two younger siblings all last summer" "Helped set up tables and chairs for the church banquet"

However, most of the jobs for which you will be applying will not require a resume, but an application that’s filled out on-site, so that they know that your mother didn’t fill it out for you. Good luck.
